I Was Killed In Lugansk (We Were Workers Once)

I was a worker.
I did not see the bomb
that killed me,
Only the cruel wave that burnt
my flesh and buried my body
underneath the rubble,
Smothered by smoke and fire.

You will find no ribbons on my chest,
Nor bars and stars on my shoulders –
I was not a soldier,
In my hands no rifle.
I knew nothing of war,
As you know nothing of me –
I was just a worker.

I was a worker.
I did not see the bomb
that killed me,
Only the cruel wave that burnt
my flesh and buried my body.
