If I Forget, Let Me Forget About Heaven

Trapped by the barbs
in this wire,
I scream quietly through the
welts and gashes that
press tight my child’s body
to the post.
Alone in a crowd I die,
Spared the bullet only to be
condemned to hell,
I beg –
Beg it to stop,
Beg it to end,
Beg to die,

Beg for Heaven to come.

if i forget
