Au Revoir, Chichina

I remember the patter
of her bare feet,
Lightly tapping to the beat
that led my heart,
Rising on one hungry dawn
that fought for my attention,
When I only wanted to fall
into the dreams of my love,
Torn between the real
and the reel,
Hooked through my cheek
yet snagged by branches,
I was snared by her eyes
and trapped in her arms,
Though that day she would
slip from mine;

Her dreams were of the street,
the road, and I
was rooted by my struggle.
