Landsberger Allee

Summer has faded
and the leaves fell
in ones and twos,
Obscuring the sites
where I loved.

Between rows of grey
ghosts stand together
and I alone,
Alone where old Lenin
used to be.

Somewhere else they stand
in pairs and groups
gripping each other,
Away from the canyon
where I watch the straight river.

Uncaring winds blow
like the relief,
Dragging a new scent
to reassure the soul
desperately trying to forget.

Beneath the hill I pace
with the birds,
And they sing to me
softly above the roar,
Remember.

Time stands still
in the wet grass to
stare,
Lost in the poetry
of this place.

Here I forget to
remember, remember
to forget,
Freezing amongst the
cold thoughts.

Here I can only
remember love,
Sweet warmth to
heal the blackness
inside.

Summer has faded
and the leaves fell
in ones and twos,
Revealing the sites
where I loved.
