Shame

Darkness falls and I,
Alone, turn
to the sky and howl

at the shivering stars,
the uncaring moon,
Hanging heavy

in the shame of the night.
Everything fled with the light,
And love ran too.

In restless fits
words spit on a page
through vulgar ink

and tears,
Dying verse, mourning to
the black schedule,

Bleak hours drag,
Woken by the frost of
a cold sun at dawn.
