Wandering Stars

Cold light marks the end of restful hours,
Shattered by exhaustion and two white eyes.

Days are swallowed with abandoned verse.
Each time the sheets lie crumpled and flat.

Earthly sorrows stand alone with words
painted in green like love’s heart.

Empty skies weep from life’s plain canvas.
All things feel deserted at dawn.

Crooked chimney pours out blue smoke,
Announcing the decision of hidden controls.

Cracks in the darkness open to show
whole worlds to the grief below.

Wandering stars, reserved for hope,
Turn to share in the mourning.

Empty skies weep from life’s plain canvas.
All things feel deserted at dawn.
