Choose Wisely (Words of Hillel)

To take the wrong path
is to arrive at desert sands,
Arriving at desert sands
is to feed on blood’s weeds for years.

To take the wrong path
is to watch the skies rage
with a fire that burns the earth,
Fears and feared by
displaced screams that fall
of deaf ears and temporary home.

Forgotten feet leave their mark
on beaches that weep red,
Fruitless beyond what
naked, shivering eyes see,
Wired off by invisible nets
that catch nobody fish.

To take the wrong path
is to tear down the temple past,
Darkening once loved halls,
Painting the prize colours
white and blue and pink
with a brush of our stolen hair.

Crumbling rocks and fresh marks
by newly dug foundations,
Wiping clean old, dusty records;
These are all that is left
beyond the flesh and blood,
Fallen alongside the wrong path.

To take the wrong path
is to arrive at desert sands,
Arriving at desert sands
is to feed on blood’s weeds for years.
