Workman’s Hands

Hands turn rough
with miles of work,
Measured in hours

and minimum wage.
First steps greet a
cold sun rising,

Only to watch him fall
alongside drooping lids,
Heavy as bucket and mop.

Lying in cold bed
thoughts turn and
become worries –

Will you still love
my calloused embrace?
