Sundown

The night counted down
hours to drown in,
Both thick and deep.

How they stacked and fell,
Heavy on cluttered floor,
Still more with the silence

howling, quiet screams
beneath dreams lost
in dimming light.

Tick followed tock and
shook, like lines in eyes,
Blurring with salt stains

again, and again,
Silent between flaked walls
and unlocked door,

Trapped. Separate.
Sound without colour
and colourless sound.

Night counted down
hours to drown in,
Thicker and deeper than

burning wire for company.
