Teutonic White

I sat by the river
as it coiled through streets
and city skyline,
Dark against Teutonic white.

Flowers on cold bank
cast their petals to the
clouds, and wept.

Ground was lost and
won by foreign feet
with endless sweat.

Walls rose with empty window,
And winds, and noise,
And steely rattles passing.

Pale smiles rested, waited,
alone with a park’s air,
for time to freeze.

I sat by the river
as it coiled through streets
and city skyline,
Dark against Teutonic white.
