Serenity’s Hustle

From water’s sharp glance, and sacred shade,
The street’s endless life flowed and ebbed
to marble edge, granite face, tired shuffles
against the brightness of the light.

Echoes filled the canal’s grand path,
Shouting back and forth, across streams
of boats that littered eyes saturated
with a constant change, and stopping start.

Time stood, and moved with space
through history’s many expressions,
Planted atop wooden stake and sea air,
Breathing down the narrow paths of salt.

Change, as it came and went, left
dark statues to be bathed in gold,
Admired alongside the myriad forms
delicately framed for the walls.

From water’s sharp glance, and sacred shade,
The street’s endless life flowed and ebbed.
