I think of you as I do Lebanon

In your eyes I saw
the cedar and the smoke.

Between them, the rage
that buried itself in sand,
ready to burst with flame,
smothered and fuelled.

Look how you storm!
Clouds twist and turn.
The night is bright
when you strike the sea.

Howling winds blow echoes
to the far corners.

In your eyes I saw
the cedar and the smoke.

People stroll along the Beirut Corniche at night.
