Until Victory Always

The dark sky fell and
left with your body.

Black like the night
when your boat arrived,

and men poured from
the beach into the trees.

Since then, fires have caught,
burning the old for the new,

Bright, shining above sweet fields
tended by farmers turned scholars.

Wards filled with new love,
scripts written and filled

for the bohíos learning
to read their dreams.

Between the shops and the factories
new song rang out,

proud fools who built
and sang and were freed.

Yet the stars remain.
Painted on the veil above.

The dark sky fell and
left with your body,

your spirit to the black dirt,
with its furrows, for you.
