Empty Pages and Distant Thoughts

Empty pages are full
of distant thoughts.

Memories of love,
dreams of coming riches.

Echoes of broad streets
filled with foreign tongue;

Gallic, Germanic, and
the endless romance.

Empty pages are full
of distant thoughts.

The silence of despair
and desperate howl,

written in broad scrawl
of the deep blue.

Yearning for a touch
or some blessing.

Empty pages are full
of distant thoughts.

Dark truths rage
through the lines

from bombs over Pakistan
to the starving child

or the man who struggles
to walk, abandoned, alone –

Empty pages are full
of distant thoughts,

unnoticed amid the roar
of turning earth.
