Dreams of Green and White

From between four tired walls
comes lasting lament.

Green and white dreams
escape through a crack in the door.

Words scrawled on paper
conjure the shape of distances;

Diamonds shiver and glisten,
far from my muddy eyes.

Oh, towers of hilly pass!
Longing to touch heaven’s face!

Let me scale your walls.
Let me pass your iron gate.
