An Ocean’s Wind

Between the shadow and the soul
I carry a salty spray of waves,
a distant ocean’s howl that longs
for the warm comfort of the shore.

I, too, yearn for some comfort.
Not in the shade of cypress tree,
or in the sweet press of fruit,
but in the echoes of wandering breeze.

There I found the subtle lilt that
touched the sky like obscure dreams,
and oceanic eyes that filled a gaze
with fleeting curves, now lost to time.

There, I loved without knowing how,
directly, my fingers following lines
that drew closer and further away,
until they faded and I could no more.

Between the shadow and the soul
I carry a salty spray of waves;
memories of days slipped from shackles,
and cast off with an ocean’s wind.
