Unanswered in the Night

In the emptiness of silence
my voice, I know, found you,
and filled the void of
whatever it was I left behind.

Inconsequential words flatter
a barren landscape, devoid
of the life that perched on
tree’s thin arms and sang.

And now. Now I am empty,
my love wasted on pages
abandoned to the shelf,
collecting dust where once was blood.

My thoughts pour from the sky
and burst river’s banks,
slowly brimming my heart
with lost, forgotten dreams.

In the emptiness of silence
my voice echoed, like darkness,
left unanswered in the night
by the love I left behind.
