Screams, Howls, and Silence

Then, sudden like a storm,
rage poured on to summer’s streets,
placards raised with fists and
slogans that echo from walls
of riot police shields, clubs
ready to fall down over heads,
between the fires and clouds
of choking gas, sirens
reflected in blood on the floor;
screams, howls, and silence,
pooling on the pavement.
