Blue Shades of Dread

Dreams creep in with the night.
Cold air struggles with a lit cigarette.

The sky is empty like a platform;
the train has long since left.

A growing pine casts its needles
as rain on my slow heart.

In you, exhausted night, fires rage.
Shortness of love, and long sorrow.

Changing blue shades of dread
splashed on an absent canvas.

Your echo pulls me under,
my arms flailing like the wind.

In you everything sinks
beneath the veil of darkness.

Distances fill with mist and
a disappearing horizon.

Occasional points of light burst
like hope, or streetlights.

Dreams creep in with the night.
Cold air struggles with my cigarette.
